about me (chris ling)
I was born and raised in Hawai'i, but escaped to the mainland when I turned 18 to pursue an environmental science degree at MIT. After four years on the East Coast, I moved to Oregon in 2006 to go to law school and, after graduating, started developing a promising career as a lawyer and diversity professional. But, somewhere along the way, I began to really miss working with numbers and data, and in February 2017, I made the decision to leap into the software industry, and enrolled at the Tech Academy, a fifteen-week coding bootcamp in downtown Portland. Now, I'm an up and coming full-stack software engineer in Portland with a background in C#, Python, JavaScript, HTML5/CSS3, SQL (SQL Server, SQLite, and MySQL), and Microsoft Visual Studio with the .NET Framework.
When I'm not coding, I love to spend time with my son, hit the bouldering gym, shred the guitar, play futsal at Rose City Futsal, make graphics, organize elaborate themed-food competitions, and get sucked into board games and video games. (In fact, I recently started a board game company with a close friend, and we plan on publishing our first game in 2017!)
